Neurontin is the brand name of a drug called gabapentin, which is used for the treatment of epilepsy. Generally, it is used to alleviate the pain of neuropathy patients. Neurontin is also used for the treatment of bipolar disorder. When this drug was first used for this purpose, it was widely known as the best drug available for this purpose. Then some studies, especially those sponsored by the drug manufacturers, produced favorable results in support of the use of this drug for bipolar disorder. But with some latest findings from some more scientific studies from various parts of the globe against this breed, some new controversies have emerged. Despite the presence some well-compiled scientific evidence, some doctors are still prescribing the drug.

Neurontin has many more useful functions other than the above-mentioned. Anxiety disorders such as social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder can be treated and cured with neurontin. It is also successful in reducing the depression and zero tolerance. The major side effects of the drug are dizziness, drowsiness, and peripheral edema. High dose of neurontin is the most likely reason for severe hang over. For patients undergoing treatment for renal impairment, neurontin should not be used under any circumstances.
